The Art Of Japanese Rope Bondage

The Art Of Japanese Rope Bondage

Although often associated with fetish practitioners, shibari is a learned skill that can be used for mental stimulation and relaxation, both by the roper (usually called a rigger) and the person being trussed up (the model or ‘bunny’). When done well, it is incredibly beautiful.

Shibari

We held two shibari sessions a couple of weeks apart. Our Rigger/Rope Artist was Chris Wheeler (Doolzy) and our model/bunny was Minda. Each session ran for three hours with six photographers circling Minda as Chris tied, suspended, lowered, re-rigged, suspended again….

Chris and Minda

Chris and Minda took a break half way through to give Minda the chance to rest and restore some circulation – then a quick costume change for the second half. It really was incredibly beautiful. The photographs don’t all show the rapport and trust between them but its there. At no time was Minda in danger, or unhappy. In fact we often had to wait for her to stop smiling and laughing to take our shots. Its something they both enjoy, and are immensely good at. We were all very privileged to be able to take part and see these two great performers in action.
